MediaFire 3.0 is here!

Hi everyone,

We listened to your feedback and suggestions and now, to accommodate some of your most sought-after features, we’re excited to offer you MediaFire 3.0! Since you demand more from you file host, we launched MediaFire 3.0 to solidify our reputation as being the simplest way to upload, share, and instantly manage your files from any computer.

Here’s some of what’s new:

New Look / Updated Features

If you’re already a free MediaFire user or MediaPro account holder, you’ll notice that you’re automatically brought to your My FIles page upon logging in. This decision reflects our realization that the My Files is your primary point of interaction for most of MediaFire’s most popular features.

Following with this new focus you can now upload files directly from your My Files page into whichever folder you’re currently viewing.

Completely Redesigned Uploader

Not only did we just add the ability to upload to folders directly from your My Files page, we’ve also completely redesigned the uploader to be faster and easier to use.

You still get the same great features and functionality on the new uploader, but you should also find that the new uploader performs more smoothly – especially for your larger file uploads, which we have just increased limitations on: Free MediaFire account holders can now upload files up to 200MB in size, while MediaPro users can still upload files up to 2GB!

Embedable Dropbox Uploader

If you’re a MediaPro account holder, now you can embed shared folders in the form of dropboxes on your favorite websites.

With our new uploader, you can place a dropbox on any website that supports javascript, thus allowing your visitors to upload files into a folder you specify from your My Files page. Dropboxes have fully customizable color schemes and security options.

Bulk Download

Downloading multiple files one at a time can be a hassle, but it’s a thing of the past once you upgrade to a MediaPro account.

You can now download multiple files and folders with one click from your My Files page, a shared folder, or directly from a file download page.

Brandable My Files page and Shared Folders

With Silver and Bronze MediaPro accounts, you can add your own custom header to your My Files and shared files pages, allowing you to show your creativity or expand your branding to those who view files hosted in your MediaFire account.

Upload any image and customize the color scheme of your header for a custom look to showcase to your downloaders.

RSS Feeds

Let your downloaders stay informed with the latest file additions to your shared folders with a simple RSS feed of files uploaded to your account.

With an RSS reader such as Google Reader, your downloaders can keep tabs on your shared folders to stay on top of your latest uploads giving you one more flexible way to distribute your files.

New Download and Image pages

We’ve redesigned our download and image pages to be cleaner, more efficient, and to have a greater focus on the content rather than the interface.

You’ll immediately notice that the interface is dramatically simplified making the download link more prominent on download pages and image navigation on the image pages more accessible.

We hope you love the new MediaFire as much as we do and as always, keep the feedback coming and we’ll do our best to improve the website to better suit your needs.

My Files Page Performance Upgrades

Hi all,

Just another quick update to let everyone know about some performance upgrades we’ve just rolled out for the My Files page. While all of the updates are behind the scenes, most users should see a performance increase of 60% to 75% and in some cases up to 30 times faster.

Image System Updates Completed

Hi all,

Just a quick update regarding the image system and our newly supported image formats.
All images site-wide should be back to normal including any images now supported by the new system. We now support all jpg, png, png 24/32, ico, tff, pcx, bmp, and gif images and any previously uploaded images of those formats will now be displayed with thumbnails and embed links as well.

Image System Updates and PNG Image Support

Hi everyone,

Last night we rolled out a new update to our image hosting system and it may be causing some of your images to display a “file not found” or “image servers offline” error message. I just wanted to post a quick note to reassure everyone that all your files are still there and secure. Essentially the system is still updating all image content and re-rendering the thumbnails for every image currently hosted on MediaFire causing any image that has not yet been updated to display a temporary error. With over 40 million users now hosting with us that’s a lot of images to update! Fortunately, it shouldn’t take too much longer.

By popular request this update to the image hosting system also includes additional support for .png, .tiff, .ico, and .psd formats as well as most other commonly used image file formats and file extensions.

Just to clarify, your image files are still downloadable however thumbnails and embedded versions will appear offline or display an error until the system has completed updating them.

Thanks again for your patience. We’re excited to now finally be supporting even more image types for your galleries and for embedding in your favorite websites.

Images Display Faster Too

Hey all,

The same updates that fired up (pun intended) your download links have also been applied to the image servers. All images hosted on MediaFire should now display nearly instantaneously making your galleries, embedded images, and direct image-links all much more snappy.

Here’s a few sample images hosted in my account:

Admittedly, I’m not the best photographer out there, but hopefully this gives you a small taste of the speed with which we are now able to serve images as well as files.

Downloads Now Launch Even Faster

Hi everyone,

We just rolled out a big update today and your downloads should launch faster than ever. The update involves the systems behind the scenes that handle your download requests. It’s transparent to the user except for the extra short time between clicking the link and your file downloading.

So what does this mean for you? Well for one it just makes downloading files that much faster and easier, but it also applies to files you stream or direct link with your MediaPro account – allowing them to start streaming even more quickly than before.

So that you can give it a try, I uploaded a few of the latest and greatest web browsers, just choose the one for your operating system to get a taste of the download speeds. If you haven’t tried these or you happen to still be running an older one, you can even install one of these highly recommended browsers to see if you like it.

DDoS Attack on MediaFire Servers

Hi everyone,

Just a quick update on our status. Starting Saturday April 25th at 12:00pm CST MediaFire came under attack by a large Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack that denied services for some customers. The DDoS attack is utilizing over 40,000 70,000* separate computers continuously sending valid requests to MediaFire’s servers in an attempt to overload our systems. We have been able to mitigate the attack without any lasting damage but the attack is still ongoing.

There was no data loss or lasting disruption to the MediaFire free or Pro services. Thanks again to everyone who submitted support tickets notifying us of the issue and for your patience while we deal with this ongoing attack.

Files in Multiple Folders

Hi everyone,

Quick update to the site. By popular demand you can now upload the same file into multiple folders. This feature allows you to create duplicate files across your folders just in case you want to send a different set of files to different people.

To upload a file into more than one folder, simply repeat the upload process with the same file and select a different folder from the one you previously uploaded that file into. That’s it! Easy right?

Hopefully those of you who’ve requested this option will find it useful.

Flash Player Update and Fixed Copy Links

Hi everyone,

Quick update to let you all know that a recent update to Adobe’s Flash player rendered many of the copy and paste links across the site unusable. We’ve fixed the problem and all copy links should now be working again for you. We’ve been busy adding capacity to the network to accomidate MediaFire’s continued growth and expansion but I’ll be brining you more updates soon. I hope all of your 2009’s are off to a great start!

Performance Updates

In the past few months the popularity of MediaFire has increased significantly and with it we’ve encountered many performance challenges along the way. Recently we’ve focused our efforts on significantly optimizing the general performance of all components of the site in order to serve this increased demand as efficiently as possible. Over the past few days we’ve rolled out several updates that are designed to increase page load speeds, rendering speeds, and generally make the experience of navigating your MediaFire accounts as quick and seamless as possible. You should notice that pages load faster, most notably on the front page, download pages and on your My Files pages. On a fast connection pages may already have been loading quickly enough that you might not notice too much of a difference, however in tests we’ve seen page load time cut by more than half on an average internet connection. Let us know what you think! There’s more to come too, so stay tuned for further developments in the coming weeks.
