We’ve made a fix today that should help out many of our international users. MediaFire now supports all language character sets so if you’ve been uploading files with international characters in the file names you can now expect them to be displayed correctly throughout the site.

We also released a new version of the flash uploader that should fix a few small bugs and includes some visual updates as well as updated our image hosting system to fix a bug that was resulting in “File Not Found” images for some image uploads. That’s all for now, it’s time for some Olympic beach volleyball semifinals!

Cheers,

Hey all, just one more quick update for tonight.

From your feedback we’ve been able to find and fix a few issues that were affecting some users tonight including the following:

MediaPro statistics on the statistics overview page now work correctly

Image gallery preview window scroll-lock was fixed

Added support for deleting web uploads that are completed

Minor bug fixes to web uploads

Added more documentation for how bandwidth works

As always, let us know if you run into any other bugs and we’ll squash them as quickly as possible. On a side note, now that the lines at the Apple stores around San Francisco have died down slightly, I was finally able to get my hands on a new iPhone 3G today and I’m absolutely loving it. Hope I’m not sounding like too much of a fanboy here but we’ll be seeing a lot of great innovation in the mobile industry now that the paradigm is shifting to the phone as a truly capable computing platform. No doubt cloud services will become an increasing crucial part of all our digital lives which is why we’re dedicated here to make sure we’re providing one of the most efficient and simple to use methods of storing and transporting all that data.

Thanks again everyone,

Hi everyone,

Couple of announcements to make. The first being that we’ve increased the maximum file size for MediaPro members from 2GB to 10GB per file. Uploading files between than 2GB and 10GB in size poses some unique requirements for most users so head on over to our knowledge base article on the subject for more information.

Our other announcement is that the new and much requested website-to-MediaFire uploader is now up for MediaPro members. If you’ve already upgraded to a MediaPro account you can take it for a spin by simply copying and pasting a URL of any file or image from a website or FTP site into the uploader. Just like our basic uploader, this website uploader supports files as large as 10GB at a time, making it easy for you to transfer large files from any web server into your MediaFire account. Try it out and let us know what you think.

More to come soon!

I’m sure that many of you have already noticed that we’ve made a quick update to the new Flash uploader today. It now has the ability to upload files into existing folders. During the upload process you will receive the option to upload into any of your folders or to create a new one. This was by far the most suggested feature since we launched the new uploader last week and if you haven’t already, give it a try and let us know what you think.

We’ve also fixed a couple of bugs that may have been causing some issues for new users, as always your feedback has been invaluable in tracking those down. Drop us a message if you’ve got any new feedback or suggestions, we always love to hear what creative ideas for how we can improve the site!

We hope everybody out there is as excited as we are about the successful launch of our updated site. Thanks to everyone who left feedback on the blog or through the support system. We’ve received a lot of good feedback, and among them were some notifications of some bugs, which we have largely fixed. Some of the fixes we have already worked out include:

Fixed the timeouts occurring on the flash uploader and the basic uploader

Fixed uploads getting stuck on verifying

Fixed the issue of shared folders not working for some users

Improved the “email a file” feature (emails should no longer be caught by spam filters)

Fixed the issue of MediaPro users’ password protected files being inaccessible to non-mediapro users.

We’re still working on some other fixes that will make your experience on MediaFire better, including:

Option to upload files to existing folders

Option for MediaPro users to upload files from a website download link

Improved download statistics on the MyFiles page for MediaPro users

Fix of the “post to MySpace” button

Thanks again for all your continued support. Keep the feedback flowing!

It’s been an exciting few months since our last major update, we’ve been concentrating on growing the website to accommodate for the massive demand and traffic. We’re proud to now be serving our almost 2 million registered users and we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to support the features that you’ve all be requesting. Many of you have probably already noticed the most obvious of these upgrades - the new flash multi-file uploader, which now allows the selection and upload of hundreds of files at once. We’ve also launched many other advanced features and small upgrades, including many as part of our new MediaPro service that is designed to provide the powerful and advanced features that our business and professional users have been requesting.

All accounts get these new features:

Direct URL: Allows you to create your own unique MediaFire URL that directs to a folder of your choosing within your account.

Thumbnail images in gallery view: Allows you to mouse over the small image thumbnails to view a larger version.

Image preview scrolling: Image previews scroll down the page as you navigate your large folders of images.

MediaPro accounts get these additional new features:

Direct linking: Allows you to bypass the file download page and initiates downloads directly.

2GB maximum file size: Allows you to upload files from your local computer up to 20 times larger than free users.

Rollover bandwidth: Applies any unused bandwidth at the end of a month to the next month.

Advertising free: Means you and everyone working with your files will not see any advertisements.

Redundant backups: MediaFire will keep redundant copies of all of your data stored in your MediaPro account.

SSL encryption: Allows you to securely log in to upload files and manage your data while preventing unauthorized users from accessing your account.

Advanced statistics: Allows you to view who is accessing your files though a set of easy to use filters.

Over the next couple of weeks we’ll be doing occasional posts to detail more about some of these new features and the benefits they can provide you. As always, we’d love to hear your feedback on the new system, so please feel free to tell us what you think!

Cheers!

- Tom
