Hi everyone,

Just a quick update on our status. Starting Saturday April 25th at 12:00pm CST MediaFire came under attack by a large Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack that denied services for some customers. The DDoS attack is utilizing over 40,000 70,000* separate computers continuously sending valid requests to MediaFire’s servers in an attempt to overload our systems. We have been able to mitigate the attack without any lasting damage but the attack is still ongoing.

There was no data loss or lasting disruption to the MediaFire free or Pro services. Thanks again to everyone who submitted support tickets notifying us of the issue and for your patience while we deal with this ongoing attack.

- Tom

As I’m sure many of you have heard, Google just launched their new web browser called “Chrome.” After playing around with it a little today, I have to admit, I’m really impressed. Since Chrome is designed explicitly for web applications and contains an entirely new JavaScript engine called “V8″ it’s perfect for rendering your My Files page efficiently – even if you have thousands of files in your account. Not only does it run MediaFire’s dynamic content blazing fast, but it seems to provide a great user experience for browsing the web in general.

Google has given a lot of attention to usability design in Chrome, and while it’s interface may initially seem slightly foreign in it’s typical Google-esc friendly color scheme it’s very easy to quickly begin using without changing your usual browsing habits. It’s worth a try, check it out!

For more information about Chrome including a great (although very lengthy) comic strip, visit Google’s official blog.
