MediaFire application is now available on Facebook!

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

We’re excited to officially announce the new MediaFire application for Facebook! The MediaFire application is a full integration of MediaFire’s file hosting and management tools for Facebook. It provides a true file hosting platform allowing for the upload and management of any file type with no storage limits. The application allows any Facebook user to connect their existing MediaFire.com account and share all of their existing files, or create a new account. As always, you have the ability to set files to private or password protected for an added level of security.

The MediaFire application provides a complete solution for file storage and hosting through Facebook including the ability to browse your friends files and post files to your profile. You can also see a list of recently posted files by your friends who also use the MediaFire application.

Once the application is installed it’s easy to post files and folders to your profile so that all of your Facebook friends can access them.

You can see some more screenshots and additional information on the MediaFire Facebook application page.

As always, let us know if you’ve got any suggestions or feedback for this new Facebook application.

Cheers!

Update and New Feature

Sunday, June 17th, 2007

Tonight we rolled out a set of updates and a few bug fixes. While the majority of the work went into improving the performance of our file servers we’ve also made a few visual updates and added a new feature by popular request; the ability to adjust the number of items displayed per page.

Check the top right of your file list for the new “Files per page” control:

This feature should make it a lot easier to manage large lists of files or simplify your list view to only show 10 items for easy browsing. Let us know what you think!

Thank you to everyone who’s emailed in their experiences with the new site, your feedback has been invaluable. As always, feel free to contact us anytime if you happen to run into bug or just want to give us some suggestions for new features.

Over the next few weeks we’re going to be releasing a few more exciting new features and I’ll be updating the blog more frequently. Check back soon and keep the feedback coming in!

200,000 Members Strong and Growing!

Friday, April 27th, 2007

Hey all,

This is a quick update to announce that today marks another milestone for MediaFire. We have just officially welcomed our 200,000th member! We’re excited that so many people have already adopted MediaFire as their file hosting solution especially since we announced our first 100,000th member less than three months ago. Despite the pleasant surprise of reaching this goal nearly two months earlier than we expected, we’re still working hard to bring MediaFire a whole new set of features which have also just been released into a private alpha test.

This weekend we’ll be implementing more small tweaks around the site to further accommodate for these new features and to keep pace with this phenomenal growth. There will also be a rolling maintenance period this evening between 8:00PM and 12:00AM (CST) which may result in a short period of down time for the site as we bring more servers online. With these changes and new hardware in place the increase in download, upload, and general page loading speeds should be significantly noticeable.

Thanks again everyone, especially to all of those who have been sending us their insightful feedback! We couldn’t do it without you.

Cheers!

New Account Management Tools

Friday, February 16th, 2007

Now that the file distribution system is running rock-solid, fast and with plenty of room for growth we finally get to move on to some of the fun (and important) features like Account Management.

Account OverviewWith the addition of the My Account page you now have the ability to do basic things like update your email address, change your password, and see an overview of your account activity. Some of the other optional fields on the account page will play a more important role in the future as development continues and as always any personal information will remain private and secure unless you choose to share it. One such option that’s now available on your My Account page is the field labeled “Display Name.” Your MediaFire display name has to be unique so make sure you grab the name of your choice early and hold on to it for later.

To access your new My Account page, simply log-in to MediaFire and click your email address in the top right of the page once it shows up. Check it out and let us know what you think!

100,000 Registered Users

Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

The MediaFire community is now officially over 100,000 registered users strong with millions more enjoying the service without registration. We thought we’d take this moment to thank everyone for helping us get this far and reassure you all that this is still just the beginning. Just after reaching the 100,000 user mark last night, we rolled out yet another round of system upgrades and it looks like they’ve made significant increase in performance across the site. Pages should be loading noticeably faster now. Also by your request we’ve implemented some better error reporting that should help identify some problems that might occur during the upload process.

We read every email that comes in and I’ll continue to do my best to respond to as many as possible. As always, feel free to drop us a message, we’d love to hear your feedback about the site and any suggestions you might have about how we can continue to improve the service.

Cheers!

Quick Update: Antivirus scanning is live

Thursday, November 23rd, 2006

Greetings everyone!

While we’re taking a little time off today to enjoy some family time and some Thanksgiving turkey and mashed potatoes, I just wanted to take a moment to give our extended family of MediaFire users a quick update on what’s been going on behind the scenes.

Over the course of this week some of you may have noticed that we silently rolled out an antivirus system that will help keep every file sent over MediaFire squeaky clean. Files are scanned during the verification phase of the upload process and thus will never make it onto the MediaFire network if a virus is detected. On the other hand, the virus scan is fairly rapid process and in most cases (if no harmful software is detected) will be completely transparent to the uploader.

Besides the usual performance testing and system upgrades that we are continuously implementing as we perfect the upload and download software, we’ve also been working extra long hours to bring you a new file management system complete with almost every feature that’s been requested by our users. We’re pretty excited about the new file management system, but it’s still going to be a little while until it’s ready, so if you have any suggestions that you’ve been sitting on wishing that we’d implement, please don’t hesitate to shoot us an email and we’ll do our best to make sure the most popular ideas are included in the new release.

Thanks again and happy sharing!
